I got myself an '01 Elantra motor in my tib right now. I was reading the cam comparison chart and realized that the XD cam came in '01 Elantras in the beta2. But I am certain that this motor is a beta1 because it has the older style valve cover. So does it have the XD cam or the normal beta1 cam?? Also, I ordered an '01 elantra cam for my old motor, so would that be an XD cam or just the normal beta1 cam??

Your best bet is to look on the block for a identifier. Old BetaI's have "RD" on the block.

I checked the vin on the block and it came up as an '01. If it was a beta2 XD wouldn't it have the newer valve cover??

if its actually an 01 elantra motor, you have a beta 2. if i had a beta 2 and i needed a new valve cover, id rather spend 30 or something on a replacement form someone that whatever the beta 2 cover costs. just an idea of how it may have gotten that cover

Ok, one question. Do the 01 Elantras have the beta I or beta II engines?? I want to know this because i guy if parting out a 01 elantra and i called him to ask about the tranny, but didnt answer.

If its a beta II now i just need to ask him if it has a 5 speed, but first i want to be certain it's a beta II before i call him again. I ask you guys cause i doubt this person will know if its a beta I or II.

Thanks

THey have a Beta 2 engine. Period.

One way to ENSURE you have a Beta 2, is to check what type of ECU you have.

So your all saying that my motor has the XD cam in it already and could benefit from my '98 tiburon exhaust cam.

According to the chart on HP.com it has the XD cam which is the largest intake cam, but it also has the smallest exhaust cam though??
