Cai Or Short Ram?

hey everyone im new here so if i ask a newbie question dont bite my head off plz but yea this site is pretty sweet.. but neways to the question....i just got my 98 tibby last week and I want to put a CAI or short ram in it but im not sure whats the better way to go...im think CAI but i have an auto and theres another post about autos and CAI's and the whole mess of trouble with the tranny in the way but ik the CAI is better than short ram but can i get almost the same amount of power from a short ram? k thx.....and another thing...can i take the heatshield thingy thats covering the headers off or should i just keep it on till i get some new headers??? kk thxx smile.gif

CAI is always better. Colder air = more power potential.
Short rams suck, and not in the good way.
Do a search on Cold Air Intakes, you'll find lots of info here.

Short rams will degrade in their power as your engine heats up also.
Yes, you can take your heatshield off.

i had a cai on my tibby, then it actually got a hole in the piping from rubbing against the trans, so i cut it down to size, so now its a short ram pretty much, and havent noticed any power difference really.
so my oppinion is either one really.

I put double sided tape where cai meets trans and another where at battery to couchin it, I need to check if its working soon (dark now) the cai ends up taking up air from right behind that little vent on the left of the bumper, for 01 not sure about the RD1s

yeah you def. want to stick to the CAI. short rams just suck in hot air from your engine which obviously isn't a good thing. get a CAI. smile.gif
