Actually ALL of the gears are longer because there are two extra teeth on the pinion gear that meshes with the ring gear on the differential. The gears themselves are all the same. The increase in the number of teeth on the pinion gear is what causes the higher ratio.

And I can go an extra 8 mph at the same rpm in 5th, I call that a pretty big difference but thats me. Of course that is after having a 1.8L trans in the car which would only do 60 mph at 3k rpm vs. my 2.0L trans that did about 62-63.

I have a 2005 elantra trans in the car now.

how many miles where on it when u bought it and from when it started grinding

It had, if i remember correctly 35k miles on it and it started grinding at around 60k so it took around 25k to get the grinding again. sad.gif

after 04 they switched to tripple cone syncro's

so does that mean an 05 would have even better syncro's?

have u had any problems wit shifting/grinding since?

the xd and elantra have same tranny/gear ratio right?

My 05 trans only had like 27,000 miles on it when the third gear synchro went so.... Although it was my fault, I missed third something serious and was shifting really hard. Synchro face was completely smooth after that.

the highway traveling 'longer' 5th gear that everyone speaks of, is almost no difference at all.. the only difference i could tell with a beta II trans was no more grinding and better shifting.

From what I've seen, it should be possible to replace the 5th gear with a longer gear easily. 5th gear and reverse are located in a separate box from the rest of the transmission. It looks like everything would be easily replacable from the outside (VENDORS: READ DIY MOD) of the transmission in the smaller gear box secured by about 8 bolts right behind the inner fender. I'd really like to find a higher geared 5th. It looks to be easily accessable, but I don't know where I can find any parts for it. Check out what I'm talking about. http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...85198388688145

There's a disassembly video as well, but the part I'm interested in is about 12:20 on

i know your right but info is spread around on many diffrent topic and i think there is not evan a DIY thread sad.gif

over here poeple in québec said that the beta 1 tranny from old elantra(96-99) were stronger.... is it true i dont know....

First 3.615
Second 2.053
Third 1.393
Fourth 1.061
Fifth 0.837
Reverse 3.250
Final gear ratio 3.650

here is 2003 elantra so beta 2 ?

First 3.462
Second 1.950
Third 1.393
Fourth 1.031
Fifth 0.825
Reverse 3.250
Final 3.650

here is a tiburon 2000

Gear ratio 1st 3.462
2nd 2.053
3rd 1.393
4th 1.061
5th 0.837
Reverse 3.250
Final gear ratio 4.056

here is the gear ratio from a 2004 tib 2.0L

can't seem to find on hyundai webtech gear ratio for elantra later then 2003... sad.gif

by changing tranny what i would wish is a longer 5th gear so RPM woulb be lower then 3300rpm at 120km/h sad.gif

at same speed in my father's matrix witch is auto .... engine rpm is 2800rpm.... sad.gif
