Kind of along the same idea as hyundaidb883 had. I wonder if it might have had more of a tendency to slip beause of how smooth the pulley was. Most OEM car parts don't come with surface finishes that smooth. Maby it needed to be a little more rough to grab the pulley. This is just a thought I don't realy know that much about cars but it seems to make sence.

This post has me worried.

Just retighten the belts a few days after installed and try not to got through big puddles. Keep a spair belt and the tools to install it. I would have been fine if I did that.

You worry about anything that has anything to do with pulleys.

You're right. It's one of those, "If this really works, then why didn't car manufacturers do it" kinda mods.

And I was just starting to breathe easy hypnotized.gif

Next time don't forget to turn blower on the max and turn heater all the way on high, that should help a bit with cooling........... hmm, but no belt = no coolant circulation...

I had to go with a little bit smaller size than the length recommended in the DIY section for the belt that goes around the water pump, alternator, and power steering(the one that melted)

power steering has it's own belt.

^^^^^I think it it must be driven off another pulley that is driven off the belt that broke then because I had no power steering.

Power steering is drive by a belt which comes from the water pump, which is driven by the crank pulley. Crank -> water pump -> power steering.

I replaced the belt and all is good and fine now. I will just try and watch out for deep puddles that might splash up onto it.
