I've heard you can go map based. There's no DIY on that as of yet.

Here's a picture of an E-BAY CAI which is designed like the AEM.

.... and it "Comes with cool color painted housing pipes"

Your intake is just fine, for now, get the problems fixed and upgrade later, what we need are some CLOSER pics of your engine bay.

i had a play around last night but no matter what i do the air filter is infront of the rediator and has a hose pressed up against it. the hose has actualy melted part of the mesh on the filter so im guessing there is a lot of hot air getting in which is probabily robbing me of some power. hopfully the new cai will sort this out. its the same as the one above.

also, a good idea (not for looks) is to wrap your CAI in heat wrap, since itll be getting cold air, so the air is not heated up at all by your engine bay heat. wont help a ton, but will help none the less.

right i got the new cai and just had a go at fitting it.
it dose not fit right.
im sure im doing somthing wrong. is it the filter ment to sit in the seperate section behind the fog lights and not the lower enging bay behind the radiator? if so there is a box in the way. what is this and can it be removed? it looks like if i removed it and the plastic housing around the wheel arch and the bottom of the car it will sit in there nicely.
has anyone got any good pis of where theirs sits? failing that could someone please give me a step by step of how to get this dam thing in?
thanks

ive been looking around the site and i cant find a pic of where the filter sits. plenty of the cai from above but none of the bottom section with the filter. this would be a great help if anyone has an aem one fitted?

You haven't looked or read very hard.

Why not look at the DIY INSTALL FOR THE AEM?

It is posted.

because diy aem install didnt show me what i needed.
i needed to see how to get around that box thing and as i didnt know what it was i couldnt surch for it.
luckly someone on the uk site told me what it was and i was able to find a diy post on how to move it and install the aem. this will be the task for sat aswell as a new fuel filter and oil change. then on monday a new inlet manifold as it sounds like mine is cracked, o2 sensor moved so its after the cat not infront and an apexi safc neo installed and mapped. lets hope this lot dose somthing for those bad results! im guessing if the manifold is cracked that it could of played a good part in the why my cars power run was so low. not to mention the hot air intake and o2 sensors wrong readings.
