Default air filter sensors?

I got a new k/n air filter for my tib but when I went to disconnect the stock box there is a wire coming out of the left side? Is that another engine sensor and what happens when I disconnect it? Can it be left disconnected?

That is the IAT (Intake Air Temperature) sensor.

It needs to be connected in the flow of the air going into the engine. it can be disconnected temperarily, but you will get a CEL light P0012 IAT low code if you leave it off. Also you will run slightly richer with it off.
