Yes, something like that will improve your performance from your regular air box.
What I suggest is getting an AEM clone off ebay or a genuine AEM. Those will give you the best bang for your buck.

The best place to put the filter is inside the fender well. The pipe should run under the battery tray, through the lining. The AEM clones are cheap, you would probably spend more having someone make one for you.

This should make it very clear for you. You're probaby talking about the IAT (intake air temperature) sensor - you should have a hole made somewhere in the piping for it.
