80mph @ 2800 RPM?!? OMGZ. Gimmie! Lessie.. my RD2, 80mph is 3900 RPM.... That's a huge difference....

might seem like a dumb question but i am truely wondering if the GK 6-speed tranny would bolt up to a 5-speed RD1. I know it would require some work on the tranny ecu, but anything else?

It's been talked about, and yes, it should, but the expense of trying to get the tranny here and then installing it, all for about NOTHING of gains and such, isn't justified.
Let's put it this way. They aren't even doing that in Korea, where they are readily available.
You'd prolly ahve to change the shifting area somehow too. I dunno how it would work.

the only way I would attempt the 6 speed conversion.. would be if I could but a wrecked GK with that transmission and had it there so I could grab what I needed from it. It might be simple, it might be a nightmare. There is no way to tell.
And yes, from everything I have read on the six speeder, it is an economy transmission, not a close ratio gearbox. A good closeratio 6 speed is a joy.. while you do shift more, it allows you to keep the engine in it's sweet spot more. I have heard a good six speed to be the equivilant of 50 extra HP.
