you can tell on the pistons where the valves hit, but there was no damage to the pistons just minor scratches. Engine it self has 176K miles, A new engine with 40K is going in.

Looks like all that engine really needs is a set of valve guides and new valves. While you're at it, do the 1.8 pistons and intake camshaft, and port the head and manifolds like I did. The pistons cost $160, the head gasket set costs $140, and the camshaft costs $109. That way, you can build this motor and swap it back in later.
You'll never find another car that's this cheap to get quality (OEM, actually) performance parts for. fing02.gif

That looks really good man. I wish I had a reason to pull the engine out and paint it. That looks great! how did you prep the surface?

^^^^ will post pics of the other side tomorrow, I also polished the Intake manifold, and painter fuel rail blue.
I had one problem tho, the flywheel, does not fit on the new engine it has 6 screws those do line up but the center opening is smaller than the engine. I am assuming the engine comes from an auto tiburon. I was thinking about taking the flywheel to the machine shop and have them open up the flywheel a little more. OPINIONS?

Hyundai made a change to the crankshaft they put in the engines in July 1999. The flywheel mounting flange diamater was reduced from 41 mm to 35 mm and flange height was increased from 4 mm to 6.5 mm. You can read up on this on www.hmaservice.com . There is a crankshaft spacer available from the dealer that may allow you to mix and match the older/newer parts.

As far as I know there is no difference in the transmissions from 97 to 01 so if you are using an engine and flywheel from a 97, your 2000 transmission should fit fine.
