2000 Tiburon Broken Timing Belt

I had a honda civic with an interference engine. It was driving up hill at about 3,000 RPM when the timing belt snapped. No damage was done to the valves or the pistons. Just replaced the timing belt. It's not gauranteed that an interference engine will destroy itself, but it's more then likely. It's possible no damage was done, but I've never heard of that in a Tib.

UPDATE:
well the guy i bought it from told me the belt broke, but i just opened the belt cover and to my surprise the belt was intact, i cranked it with the cover off and all belts move, except the timing belt, what could that mean?

could mean the teeth on the belt are broke around the crankshaft. Time to go and take your passenger side wheel off remove the fender liner and take off your crankshaft pully to expose the crankgear that the timing belt goes on. one of the 2 DIY's i posted for you tells you how to do it with a breaker bar. Your going to have to take off your A/C belt and power steering belt. once you take the pully off you can get access to the crankshaft gear and see the teeth and get a better idea of whats going.
I would recommend still pulling the head off and seeing if you have valve damage first before putting a new timing belt on. Good part of that is that you have to follow some steps to remove the head as you would to change the belt so its not a wasted effort.

Guys, can you split this off to another topic please? you talk about whatever he did or didn't do to double post someplace else so we can get tracerman back up and running?? DTN drama....
89tracerman-
DONT CRANK YOUR ENGINE ANYMORE EXCEPT BY HAND!!! If your timing belt is broke or sheered off teeth then you are possibly pushing pistons into valves. Even though out engines are interference engines you can turn the crankshaft without the camshaft moving and not damage anything by hand in fact, your going to need to do it by hand to reset the timing.

YES only the bottom teeth of the belt broke off.... I bought an engine out of a 97 tiburon with 87K miles, I will install other motor, and take this one completely apart.
