Not really. I was hoping that the specs of the 1.6 intake cam will be the same as the 1.8 and when I get my 2.0 I will swap the tranny and the cam from my 1.6.
I heard that the tranny of the 1.6 is very short therefore good for drag racing. I also heard that the intake cam of the 1.6 is the same as the 1.8. Can anyone verify this?

Well,
The heads of the 1.6L as well as of the 1.8-2.0L BETA ARE EXACTLY THE SAME! So aplies to the engine mounts and engine bases. YOU CAN SWAP everything from one engine to another.It has be done,no questions about that. You can use the tranny of the 1.6L on a 2.0L engine.It works fine.BUT the clutch as well as the flywheel use a different pressure-philisophy in the 2.0L than the 1.6L. GO ahead and use the 1.6L trenny on the engine swap you will not regret it. Use the 1.6L flywheel and have it lightened 1.3 kilos and balanced.That lightening works fine on a 2.0L engine with the 1.6L flywheel and tranny,for both turbo and NA applications. The cams of the 2.0L can be installed on a 1.6L no doubt about that.
The cams of th 1.6L are exactly sthe same as the one of the 1.8L.

Hey Tasos, there would still be the issue on the different bore sizes on the head, how did the people that you know did that swap overcome this problem?
Because you certainly cannot just put in on a 2.0 block without any modification, can you?

The problem here is that Tasos really doesn't know what his mechanics did to his engine (by his OWN admission)
If you're using the 1.6L head on a 2.0L block, the head will underhang the cylinder bore by around 2-3mm (I cannot immediately remember the bore difference) You will have a "lip" all the way around the combustion chamber when the piston is at TDC.
It doesn't suprise me that the part FITS on there, but I'm still very sure it's a different casting. That overhang will cause a LOT more problems than solutions...

heh, unless HMC REALLY went cheap and actually DID use the same head...just figuring the little gap at the corner would fill right up with carbon deposits...

The 1.6L tranny fits JUST fine in the 2.0L
We use a 1.6L clutch,(VALEO is the make) which has been reconstructed by my mechanic and uses different friction materials.We call them metalic in Greece, I don't know how you guys know them like. I have seen the clutch and it is like a cross...
The tranny holds just fine.According to my mechanic the 1.6L tranny has better syncronizers(i think thats how you call them),and it is much shorter than the 2.0L. My mechanic insisted on using it although I had bought the 2.0L tranny...
