That's a damn good question. the 1.6L is a "beta" like the 1.8L and 2.0L, however the 1.6L has it's own block, as it has smaller bore and stroke, but it is essentially the same casting.

Since the 1.6L has a smaller bore, the head has smaller combustion chambers, so I would say "NO".

You could have the head on the 1.6L re-worked to enlarge the combustion chambers, however, it would probably be cheaper to aquire a 2.0L block and head together rather than paying someone to re-work your 1.6L head combustion chamber and enlarge it for the larger bore. You would also have a hell of a time figuring out the compression ratio on the re-worked combustion chamber, it would also have to be done by someone DAMN GOOD (meaning expensive), to keep the quench/squish areas right.

Nope, can't go the other way either. The larger bore of the 2.0L and 1.8L pistions would not have sufficent combustion chamber area in the 1.6L head.

Why don't you just buy a 2.0L with a 2.0L Head?(The 1.8L and 2.0L share the same head).

random, have you seen a 1.6 beta before???

not to make you angry at me, but if you have not seen this engine yet, i think your assumptions are incorrect.

PLEASE DONT FLAME ME!!!

No, there is still LOGIC you can apply. The specs can be found online. If the engine bore is different, then the head casting HAS to be different. The cylinder head combustion chamber is dependant on the bore of the block.

A cylinder head designed for a block that has an 81.5mm bore ISN"T going to work right on a block that has 80mm pistons. You have 1.5mm of "underhang" from the block side that will cause problems with the combustion process.

The bore between the 1.8L and 2.0L engines are identical, and we already know the head casting is the same. But the bore on the 1.6L is smaller, so the combustion chambers had to be modified on that head style. And since the bore is smaller and so is the stroke, the engine block itself is a different casting.

There are some things you can never know for sure until you rip it apart, but THIS is something that's pretty defacto-standard among all engines. If the bore AND stroke change that dramatically, it's very likely an entirely different casting.

Red I see your logic. But we will never know unless someone rips out a 1.6 beta, compare the heads of it and a 2.0 beta, and tell it to us.

Red, I will be honored if you can come here to the Philippines and see the engine for yourself. smile.gif wink

I've never seen a 2.0 beta before. But from pics from the web, the two look similar.
