To me, that is NOT a ram air setup, nor is that setup desirable. You might as well keep the stock airbox and do the "snorkus" mod. Even at speed, with all the corrigation ridges in that snorkus pipe, it is not going to flow much air. Even if it did, the engine bay temps are easily over 150 Degrees, this may drop your intake temps to 100 degrees, but a true CAI will drop them MUCH more.

I would NOT worry about rain getting into that pipe and getting your filter wet. There are too many ridges and curves in that pipe to allow water suspended in air to actually make it out the other end. If it did, it would not have enough forward velocity to reach the filter.

Also...where that high beam is, is a LOW PRESSURE AREA! The headlight is recesed into the body, so the majority of the air just goes over/around. The grill work in place of the high beam just makes that even worse.

Ram air setups must project the ram air opening IN FRONT of the body of the car...where the high pressure wave of air is. Think of a jet fighters shockwave...if you recess the intake 2"...you are BEHIND the shockwave....LOW PRESSURE. If you extend the intake 2" beyond the body, you are IN the shockwave...HIGH PRESSURE.

If you were to build an air tight airbox around that filter, and then extend the intake opening BEYOND the body...then you would have something.

This is something that looks like a good cheap mod...but in reality, is only slightly better than just having the filter sit in the engine bay.

Since the battery has already been relocated to the trunk in that photo, I would run an intake pipe to where the battery WAS, then either build an airbox there, with a scoop coming out the side of the drivers side fender, or just have the airbox draw air from below in, in the fenderwell, or just put the filter in the fenderwell via the hole next to where the battery was.
