Tired Of My Tib...,
#11
instead of replacing manifold with factory, I'd get aftermarket headers for better performance. probably not too different in price.
thin brake pads, worn belts, timing belt change... these are all maintenance items that need to be done every so often. Unfortunately, it's hitting you all at once.
My exhaust manifold was cracked, but surprisingly was replaced under warranty. Might be a common problem.
I just skimmed your post and didn't see it listed, do you have an automatic? That's another one of your problems. We don't have the best automatic tranny for our car.
The problems with our cars do seem to come in spurts. At 60,000 miles I lost my transmission, exhaust manifold cracked, timing belt had to be changed, brakes had to be redone (rotors and pads), and my radiator had a crack in it so I had to replace that. Luckily warranty covered tranny and manifold, but everything else I had to pay for. I was fine for 2 years then the tranny went out again, so I swapped it to a manual transmission. It's a good car and will last you a while, if you take care of it. Save up an emergency fund, because when something happens with the Tiburon, it seems to snowball and get bigger fast.
If you haven't done so since you've owned it, might be a good time to change out the spark plugs and wires while you're at it. If you can't do it yourself, learn. It's easy to do and will save you a lot of labor costs at your mechanic.

Nope, i've got a manual.
All my spark plugs and wires are changed about 1 year ago by the dealership.
But I'm thinking of upgrading the whole lot with some aftermarket ones.
NGK plugs.
I do think it's more of a problem that the previous owner didn't do a proper job on the maintenance.
I've come across some things after i bought it that i weren't all to happy about.
Anyway, it's all comming together, and i'm getting it back tomorrow.
But i'm going to maintenance it myself at least with changing the oil and other fluids,
shouldn't be too hard. Brake pads included.
At least I do know what is done then.

Well, I've got about 145,000km (90,000mi) on my car, and nothing bad has happened. As soon as I bought the car i did pads all around, plugs and wires. cleaned it up real nice, cleaned engine, and I had a misfire when I bought it. As of now, I have an intake and a 1.8l cam, and nothing has happened since I bought it. I've put about 4k miles on it, and it has been trouble free except for some asshole keying it.

Its really just luck sometimes man. My tib had some problems in the beginning (all maintenance) but once they were fixed everything worked out.
Previous owners can really screw you over sometimes.

They are a problem, you just reminded me that mine cracked a little while ago and this one is starting to do the same, I forgot because my exhaust is being upgraded soon and Headers are on the list.

previous owner must have treated it like crap. probably too poor or lazy to afford maintenance. garunteed you fix what's wrong with it it won't give you any more troubles.
with a second/third hand hyundai it's really luck. also, all or most of the problems you mentioned are related to maintenance. most important thing is engine or trans isn't giving your any problems.
i suggest it would be best to fix it up once and for all. then continue to drive the hell out of it in your own way smile.gif

Well I can throw 1k euro at it, so the tib is saved I guess smile.gif .
Got some money back from a hospital bill, that my health insurance is gonna cover partially (3/4 actually), so I'm a happy camper fing02.gif .
I hope that I can save some of it for a aftermarket header.

Your not alone 02.gif When I first got mine ('00 Tib, 62-65K Mi [forget exact])
I had just bout every electrical problem. Dash lights kept going out.
Tail lights - or one whole side of the car (eg driver's side head/running/tail lights), etc.
But some good fixing up later, regular maintance now (rich kid who owned it b4 me didn't do CRAP)
its running like a champ @ 78K mi now laugh.gif Like others said... it seems if its 2nd/3rd hand, its like the lotto...
You might pick a lucky one, or you might not pick a lucky one.
