<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (rallyman @ Oct 27 2007, 06:21 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Actually the Redline MT-90 is GL-4. I think that's why a lot of people here are using it and recommend it besides the fact that it's a pretty decent product. I'm not telling anyone what to use just reminding what the manufacturer recommends.

My own personal experience is this. I replaced the gear oil with a GL-5 not realizing the difference at about 25,000 kms. By 33,000 kms the second gear synchro was totally messed up and was replaced under warranty. Since then I have been using only GL-4 gear oil, MT-90 and currently Amsoil (my favourite out of any I've tried), and have had no other problems with the transmission. The car now has 196,000 kms on it. That doesn't mean the GL-5 was the cause of the problem but I'm going to stick with what the manufacturer recommends.</div>

Same with me. I replaced my tranny with GL-5 back in the day and my syncros started to go after 15,000 miles. I replaced it with Amsoil MTG 75w90 GL-4. It's been 70,000 miles and my shifts are silky smooth.

i was just checking something on hmaservice.com.. the beta I transmission specifies GL-4 gear oil and the beta II does not..

maybe the beta II does not need GL-4 specific fluid.. i know it has some changes. it may not use yellow metals.. can anyone shed some light on this.

i was changing the 58k original gear oil out of the mazda6 yesterday and thought of this thread. since my hand was covered in it, i took a nice whiff..... nope, smell didnt bother me at all. i kind of enjoy it after all these years..

( later on i was laying on the couch next to my g/f, she pushes me away, and say's "god u stink". then she follows it by asking if i was changing the bronco's rear end fluid. lol.)
