cutting up springs messes up the spring rate though, even more so if they arent the same diameter the whole way through. you could be putting a lot more stress on your kybs.

were they upside down maybe?

nah, they weren't upside down. The top fit right into the upper strut mounting assy. They are shaped like a triangle pointing upwards. They are the same diameter material all the way up too. The bottom has some clear heatshrink on it though so it looks bigger. it looks like a very good quality spring made by a adept manufacturer. I think there was some kind of screw up.

maybe the triangle points downward. wink1.gif

i was referring to the diameter of the coil. cutting a coil that had the same diameter throughout you can easily find the spring rate. gets a bunch tougher with ones that are shaped differently though.

^^ I did a DIY on how to change a rear strut, I think i know how to put on a rear spring.

Yeah, it was a wider portion that I cut. It's not straight up and down like the front.

I really am anxious to hear what they have to say about the spring.

^^ yeah, and that was the stupid part laugh.gif . The strut only goes in one way, smaller part up. It fits right into the upper strut mounting assy and the lower strut spring retainer. The DropZone spring was simply made too wide on the bottom

This is a stock spring. the top is to the left.

If you took that and extended it 1 coil, that would be the size of the base of the DZ506

ok, i havent looked at the stock struts and springs in well over a year. just making sure.

your stock springs must have been SEVERLY f-ed up if you now have a smoother ride. not only did cutting the springs raise the spring rate, but the overdamping will make the strut return to its natural length much faster. all that adds up to what should be a much stiffer ride.

you now have a car that looks like it has blown rear struts too.

but you want to know what youre problem is? you got gk springs.

it says "01-02 tiburon"

i bet they had the listing wrong. you prolly need 97-00 springs.

you may be right, but the front springs fit perfectly, if not a bit tight.

hmm... maybe you're right. The front WAS a bit heavily tensioned.

.. maybe even 600 lbs worth of tension.

LOL! you're right.. I so modified GK springs for a RD!!! lmao.gif

Either way, they screwed up and I'd expect at least a discount on a set of 97-00 springs for pointing out a flaw in their system.

I think you got a set for GKs.

It looks like your front is not lowered enough because the springs are for GKs which weigh a lot more than RDs.

Please don't use that DIY cut spring on your car. Do it right from the beginning because it will save your time, money, and much more.

That DIY-CUT spring will put a lot more stress on your GR2 struts and the spring itself. sad.gif
