Hello guys, I been getting vibration when I drive over 70mph and when I brake! I have had my wheels balanced, had the wheel alignment done 3 times this has cost me like テつ」150, I am thinking about sending it to the dealer to get it checked out cos it's really bugging me now.

Any ideas to what the problem might be? has anyone had a problem with the actual steering mechanism?

I've got black diamond vented and groved pads and discs all the way round and been lowered 30mm with 7.5" x 16" rims with 215/40/16 tyres.

It feels like the steering has a bit of play in it, do you think the steering pump may be on it's way out?

Any help appreciated. smile.gif

Did you bed the brakes when you got them? That could be the problem of the shaking while stoping. TTo rebed take very fine sand paper to the rotors to get off the extra pad. Then go out on a not busy day and go 100kph then stop hard to a slow rool (7 kph or so 5 mph). Repeat 10 times. Then drive for about 10 or 15 mins or so just never stop. When a red light just rolls slow until it turns green. Then repeat the braking about 10 times again. Then drive for a while without stopping (until the rotors are cool shouldnt take more than 10 mins). Now the brakes are bedded. There are diff ways to do it by brakeing from slow speeds first then getting up to about 70 mph in increments of 5 mph. But I did mine with the 60 mph or 100 kph stops.

When you sand do it lightly with high grit paper.

if you are getting "shake and brake" it can be a number of issues. The biggest is warped rotors. I know you just replaced them, but it could have been damaged in shipping and handling and not be true.. I do not know how good a product "black diamond" rotors are.. never heard of them.

It could also be bad tierods allowing the wheels to shimmy a bit instead of being held firm by the wheel. You could also have bad bushings that are allowing the suspension to move back some under braking, which would change the steering and suspension geometry

Let us kbnow more specific info... like, the vibration transmits to the brake pedal, do you feel it in your foot?
If you do most likely your rotors are warped (and be aware that this happens more frequently than people accepts because of UNEVENLY tighted wheel nuts; if one is considerably more tight than the others, and then you drive hard --rotr gets very hot and then cools-- it can benmd the rotor slightly, but enough to make it bad).

Also, how long ago did you check your struts (shock absorbers)? If the vibration does not transfer to the brake pedal, then it might be worn out shocks.

Also, there is another problem not so common but possible; tires (or do you call them tyres in the UK? smile.gif )
I have experienced this a while ago, checked the whole car, like 3 times at the dealership and in 2 other shops, at the end, on of the shops decided to test the car with different tires, it was that. Sometimes defective tires (invisible to the eye) generates vibration.

Alot more common than waarped rotors though is escess pad depositited. Because of heavy braking then leaving the car stopped.

thanks for the quick reply, I don't get any vibration in the brake pedal just the steering wheel, I have the stock shocks on the car with lowered springs.

My tyres as we call them laugh.gif are also brand new but my old ones done the same too. So I don't think its the tyres. Black diamond are a very popular good brand in the UK and I did bed the rotors in.

Do you think it would be wise to get a suspension bushing kit, how hard would it be to install?

I don't exactly know what tierods are? 02.gif im a self taught coupe specialist!

It could be my shocks but the car has only done 44K miles lowered 6 K ago so they should still be good. Any way to test them?

Hello guys, I been getting vibration when I drive over 70mph

I get an erection when I drive over 100mph. Checked the rod and everything was A.-O.K. fing02.gif

Sorry bro had to do it. Doesn't sound like shocks. Are the tires balanced? Pressures right? I'm sure you double checked these and you said you tried different tires, but...
I had same issues with my 300zx after it had been in storage for a couple of months. At high speeds the steering wheel would shake like crazy .Thought I was going to have to do alot of suspension work to it. Come to find out the tires had unequal pressure in them.

If it's none of the stuff the othes are suggesting, here are my thoughts...

1. Did they do a 4 wheel alignment each time or just the fronts? Rears could be out enough to mess up the steering. I had the issue a while back & it gave me the shits for ages before I realised what was up.

2. Are your centering rings (on the rims) the right size? They should be 67.1mm center bore, I believe.

3. Have you got any wheel spacers fitted to your car? If so, are they hub-centric spacers?

Do you have vibration when you do not brake?

The car vibrates when I go higher then 70mph and steering shakes a bit through corners.

I have had 4 wheel alignment done too, and don't have spacers. I don't know what size the centre rings are on the car.

Just been out driving and braking hard! The brake pedal is not shaking but the steering wheel vibrates, It feels like there is play in the steering system, like the whole strut might be moving slightly? Do you think it could definately be down to some worn bushings? If anything Im thinking about just changing everything, bushings, shocks and stabilizer! but thats gonna cost a bit!!!
