Early tires had their speed rating symbol shown "within" the tire size, such as 225/50SR16. Tires using this type of branding were not to have been produced after 1991.

Beginning in 1991, the speed symbol denoting a fixed maximum speed capability of new tires must be shown only in the speed rating portion of the tire's service description, such as 225/50R16 89S. The most common tire speed rating symbols, maximum speeds and typical applications are shown below:

When Z-speed rated tires were first introduced, they were thought to reflect the highest tire speed rating that would ever be required, in excess of 240 km/h or 149 mph. While Z-speed rated tires are capable of speeds in excess of 149 mph, how far above 149 mph was not identified. That ultimately caused the automotive industry to add W- and Y-speed ratings to identify the tires that meet the needs of new vehicles that have extremely high top-speed capabilities.

While a Z-speed rating still often appears in the tire size designation of these tires, such as 225/50ZR16 91W, the Z in the size signifies a maximum speed capability in excess of 149 mph, 240 km/h; the W in the service description indicates the tire's 168 mph, 270 km/h maximum speed.

Most recently, when the Y-speed rating indicated in a service description is enclosed in parentheses, such as 285/35ZR19 (99Y), the top speed of the tire has been tested in excess of 186 mph, 300 km/h indicated by the service description as shown below:

As vehicles have increased their top speeds into Autobahn-only ranges, the tire speed ratings have evolved to better identify the tires capability, allowing drivers to match the speed of their tires with the top speed of their vehicle.

The Dunlop FM901's are crap. Read the description on them, they use a cheaper silicone compound for competitive pricing. I had them and they look and handle pretty well, but I went with the P-Nero M&S's and they handle way better. The Dunlops have very poor wet traction too, because of the cheaper compound. If you go with with Dunlop, you are better off using SP Sport 8000 or 9000. Also, I do not really like the Kumho's. A friend of mine put them on his Mustang. I thought that his handling was very very sloppy considering he had an entire Eibach suspension. The tires were way under-powered for his ride. Just my opinion.

The only tires I have used out of that list is the Ecsta. I will never buy a set again, isn't worth a damn for hard launches but is a decent street tire.

I'm going to move this to the appropriate forum.

Hmm, how about the only Z-rated tire up there? BFG's always get the good ratings in racing.

Parada Spec 2s or the BFG KDW-2s. The BFG Sports are the lower version of the KDW-2s.... I had the Sports on the old Tib, and they launched very well.

I have Parada Spec 2s on the GSX, and they handle 400awhp VERY well.

scrap all the tires on your list except for the BFG. like jon said...only look at z-rated tires.

Why would you only go with Z rated tires? A Z rating means 149+ MPH/240+ KMH. The W and Y rated tires are expanded apon this. My Pirelli P-Nero is a W rated tire but the tire size is 205-45ZR16. W is rated to 168MPH/270KMH while Y is rated to 186MPH/300KMH. So, why would you go with a Z over a W? The W and Y ratings are just specific Z ratings. Are you saying the G-force T/A tires or the Eagle F1 tires are no good? Please explain.
