Well it finally happened to me, my worst nightmare,... slid into a curb *sigh*

It was raining here on friday and it was lunchtime at work.
got into the car, and drove out of the parking lot, and lost control around the corner!

I was going a bit too fast ,it's a 90 degree turn. I think i was going about 30km aprox.
When I lost control, I was sliding in a diagonal direction toward the opposite curb.

I had to think fast and did'nt want to hit the front at that angle, so I pulled the e-brake to bring the ass around
(I would much rather hit the back, than the front),...

It worked.

The back drivers side rim SLAMMED into the curb stopping me dead.
Here's the part I dreaded happening:

My rear tire is now FREAKIN SITTING AT A 70 DEGREE ANGLE!!! AAAAHHHHHHHHH!~~~~ .

you know how your wheel are supposed to look like this--> ||-------||

Well now it looks like this----> \\-------|| (Not that extreme, but you get the picture)

GRRRR!! mad.gif

Now what do you think is broke?
bend strut?
bend something else?
is it just the alignment?
I think it bad, looks like I bent something - not sure though.

Because i'm canadian we have Thanksgiving this monday(so all shops are closed)
Man this pisses me off to no end!
Oh and my nice bronze rim now has a bad curb scar on the lip.
I'm just thankful that I have Forged rims, or it could have been worse.

*sigh* sad.gif

Im pretty sure you bent the lower control arm.
I highly doubt its just the alignment but after you change the parts you would need an alignment.

if its that bad, id be scared. you could have bent the shock tower all up. your control arm and sway bar are probably toast as well.

go out and start taking off the little cargo cover plastic pivot things, and look at both sides to make sure they look even.

Shitty way to celebrate Thanksgiving dude
But take it to a shop.
Scuff Rim
Bent Control arm
and possible a bent knuckle, but without seeing it, I'm just guessing.
Chances of bending a strut aren't that likely.

And yeah, you'll need an alignment when it's all done.

Yeah, I went to midas (I've had good experience with them) and they said it might be the strut and spindal and knuckle?.

they are ordering the parts through hyundai (the A-holes were closed on saturday this is why i did'nt go to them)
so it will cost about 50$ more. I can deal with that.

If I hit my drivers front side I would be looking into thousands to fix (this is why I e-braked!)
Well the saga continues and I will find out on tuesday when hyundai gets off there ass and delivers the parts I need.

thanks for the info guys I really appreciate it.

So far im looking at 250$ labour and about 350$ in parts, we will see.

it "Might" be a strut or spindle or Knuckle?
Didn't they hoist the car up for a peak?

BTW, Spindle is another term for Knuckle

What did they all order???

yeah Kayjai they ordered a strut (KYB GR2, or i'll kill them) and a spindal.
does this sound right?

They did hoist it up, and I looked at it as well. but I don't know much beyond springs and struts.

*Might* be a good idea to replace your bearing and snap ring while they're down there.

You know how great the Hyundai wheel bearings are.

i did the same sh*t in the snow on low profile. knowing i couldn't stop going down hill, i leveled the car out with the handbrake and slammed both rims at the same time sideways into the curb ad unpleasing as it sounds. freaking raped my nice ass $900 rims good. lesson learned. how can someone check if something is bent or wrong? any mechanic? and how would you know if something was wrong driving?
