I think my rear left wheel bearing is humming (I can hear that hum when I drive at 50+ mph, on any gear, with pressed and depressed clutch). When I press brake hum becomes a bit quieter.

Do you think it's wheel bearing?

Do I have to change 2 bearings (left and right) at once?

no, you can do 'em as they go bad. its not like brakes or struts where you have to (or at least SHOULD) do 'em a the same time

Jack it up and move the wheel with your hands at the top and bottom if there's movement i think it's your wheel bearing...

Someone correct me if i'm wrong...

Never quite that easy on moving the wheel. My driver's side rear wheel bearing went. It sounded like a bald tire. The biggest clue that it was a bearing.. when turning to the left (and unloading that wheel) the noise would go away. Turning right, it would get worse. Once I had the bearing assembly out, you could feel the bearing "drag" when you spun it in your hand.

The only "problem" it is not just a bearing you replace.. The hub is one unit with the bearing already and perminantly installed. Around here it was a little over $80 USD

there are 2 types of ways a bearing can go bad

Disciplex hit on one of 'em. thats "looseness"

there is also "roughness." to diagnose that, you jack the car up, and spin the wheel and put your hand on the spring grabbing a couple coils. if you feel anything in the spring, then the bearing is bad

How to change bearings? Is it possible to change bearings and leave old hub? Like with front bearings squeeze them off and press new one in?

Not for the rear. It is one unit and must be replaced that way.

Rears come as one assembly and are much more expensive, but are much easier to install...the fronts are much more difficult, but the bearings are cheaper...

i just had the rear bearing replaced because it was going bad... it makea a roaring sound the faster you go anything over 20 mph and you will hear it. ive heard horror storys that if you let it go it will seiese everything up ad you drag the tire. so it it sounds like a bad roar and the noise lesses when you turn its good chance you got it right being a bad wheel bearing
