Do I Have Abs?
#1
1998 SE tiburon . Does my car come with abs? If i understand correctly, "tuners" would rather NOT have abs right? that way they can manouver the car more manually than have stuff like abs come and counter act?

If you are inexperienced with ABS, then yes, you rather NOT have it, but if you know how to use it,... I rather HAVE it.
Anyway, from you saying that you have a "SE" I'm guessing you're form Canada?
PLEASE FILL IN YOUR PROFILE
If you are, then NO SE's did not have ABS.
Only VERY few, and I do mean like a hand full of 97's that came to Canada had the option, but not alot of people bought them, so they didn't offer it in the 98's

ABS (is supposed to) brake better than a driver can. I don't have it on my car and there have been a couple of occasions where I wish I had! Some people just don't like any aspect of their driving experience being taken over by a computer... but that's pretty much all cars now.

It's easy to check.
If there are no elictric problems with ABS, when you turn key to ON position, on your gauge cluster should turn on yellow ABS lamp. After few seconds it should turned off.

easiest way to check? Find a dirt road, get her up to around 25mph (or your equivilant) and hit the brakes as hard as you can. If you have ABS, no amount of brake pedal pressure should make the wheels lock up.

If a car does not have any fuses/relay in the places marked ABS, does that mean it doesn't have ABS?
Is it be possible to pull an ABS setup off an RD2 and put it on an RD1? If so, would it be a big PITA and what exactly would it entail?

ABS models have different:
front drive shafts (on CV joint there is a ABS ring)
on rear axles (or spindel) there is ABS ring too
4 ABS sensors
ABS modulator
ABSCM
relays, fuses
etc
It's PITA.

Gah... speed up to 60 and slam on the brakes. If your car has ABS, then you can feel it quivering the brake pedal under your feet. Freaky feeling, at least for me. Gives me the willies. I hate ABS with all my heart. lol.gif
