Black rims - still cool or played out?
I see black wheels on almost any vehicle now- Accords, Tacoma, Focus, Echos, Prius', etc...
They were unusual at one point, so the being different made them cool.
But what about now? dunno.gif I think they're getting to be played out since everyone is doing it.

ugh, time to block avatars again.
Black rims are appropriate on certain vehicles, like the one below. Mostly they've been played out. Never been a huge fan. Gold wheels are still gaining in popularity.

You guys crack me up talkin bout black rims being played but liking the most played color ever, silver lol. I read this post before going to work this morning and on the way in I looked at every vehicle I passed and almost every vehicle had silver rims or hubcaps followed by chrome rims. I saw 1 car, a blue celica with black rims and it takes me 20 minutes to get to work in a heavy traffic area.

yes, black is "played out" - It isn't normally found on a car. There was a phase, a fad, and now it is over.
Silver is conservative and a standard. It can not be "played out"
Black just doesn't work. I've never been a huge fan, at all. Looks no better than a donut sprayed with Meguiar's Hot Tire shine
edit: there are exceptions to the rule - they can look classy and fit well on a luxury car if done properly, like the pic I posted above. Four cylinders - not so much (mine included).

Black rims are the only color rim i'll ever put on any car i own.
ALL black, no gey chrome/polished lips, no silver accents no nothing. But i've always 2-toned with black and whatever color the car was
To the OP: Who cares if it cool, if you like it and you think it looks good then get them.
To Vizionz, sorry subaru played the hell out of gold wheels, so your rims are no longer cool smile.gif
To majik, they do make 4cyl lux cars smile.gif
sorry busting balls today

I was referring my 4-cylinder comment to the OP: "I see black wheels on almost any vehicle now- Accords, Tacoma, Focus, Echos, Prius', etc..."
Also, my post isn't intended to be a blanket statement. It obviously doesn't apply to all cars and there are exceptions. It can look nice. It can look horrible. A blue Prius with black wheels, no window tint, factory suspension, makes me want to puke. Replace Prius with Cobalt, GK Tiburon, Focus, etc.
However.... my dream car (reasonable dream car) is a black on black on black FRC Corvette. All 100% black including wheels and taillights.
I just happened to find a great example:
