Yeah, get a floor jack. They are much easier to work with as well. It will last forever as long as you don't abuse it.

I thought that was right, but the diagram in the shop manual was misleading.

if you look under the car, there are two bars running from front to back. those are where you want to put the floor jack and jack stands. only use the scissor jack on the edge of the frame because the scissor jack has that notch in it to fit with the frame.
