17's Won't Fit!?!

this is the first and last time it's gonna be said
Tire size doesn't make a f*cking difference
put the tires on with the right ride like the old one.
use: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
so if your stocks are: 195/55 on 15 inch, and you want 17 inch rimms, you need to put on 205/40
Sure you could take 225/35 or even 40, but you want to stick to the closest match of your old setup, otherwise your speedo is gonna be way off.
The rubbing is caused by a wrong Rimm offset.
use: http://www.rsracing.com/tech-wheel.html
Higher offset = Rim's stick out more
correct me if I'm wrong, but learn it ppl

You guys with rubbing problems must have gotten a defective tib from the factory. LOL. Cause i had 18 inch rims with 35 profile with air bags for suspension and i can have it all the way down and still drive with no rubbing. Except when i hit a bump, the chassis hits but no tire rubbing.

offset, tire size, width... they all make a difference. If you had 18x7.5 wheels with a 50 offset, they would rub. 45 would probably rub if you hit a bump/dip while turning. It's not a defective tib. Several people have used 18x7 with a 35 series tire.
And Viper... same to you. Tire size, offset, wheel width, it all matters. It does affect the speedometer, but not enough to worry about (1-3 MPH at most with our cars). I'm very familiar with that tire calculator as well, it's been around for 4 years or longer.
17x7 is optimal for our cars. 205/40 is good, but 215/45 is what I prefer because I have 17x7.5 and would like more protection for the wheels and a smoother ride, and it works.
