QUOTE
My defense of rotary engines.
If people think rotaries are unreliable then why do they commonly use them as aircraft engines?

A: Rotary engines will not seize like piston engine will on an an overheat condition.

1.)Not even close, general aviation aircraft use piston-powered aircooled engines. Very similar in operation to a vehicle piston engine only the aircraft engine has horizontally opposed pistons (meaning they go side to side spinning a crankshaft, which spins a prop, instead of going up and down) and they are usually much larger and spin at lower rpms than a gasoline vehicle. Aircraft piston engines are carbeurated and turbocharged (called turbo-props) are similar in design to a vechile piston engine turbocharger, same concept.

Mazda has yet to make n engine that'll beat Lycoming, LOL.

and if you're talking about jet aircraft and commercial aviation, just because they spin in a circle does not mean the engine was taken directly out of an rx7. Jet aircraft use turbine-powered engines, which are not remotely similar to a piston or rotary engine..

2.)rotaries have their own list of problems that piston engines do not.
But the advantages are interesting in design..
more power per revolution
less moving parts
can spin faster safely, higher rpms
lighter

cool bunch of owners too, at least in Arizona. My first run was with a bunch of strangers with AZMazda Club through Tortilla Flats.

Half of them were RX8's and they all gave me a huge run for my money (back when the black tib was running), all the 3's and 6's I could skool. LOL

yep that's my car in the outcast circle next to the white truck, lol

still think RD1's are sexier than an RX8 though...

Actually, it's gonna be more like $12,700 now. Still happy about it. Oh, and I'm keeping the tib. I just can't give up on it. LOL
