believe me, the genesis won't be the performance sedan everyone's hoping it to be. it was made by america for america. the bottom line is you want a real performance sedan i suggest a german made car made the right way.
sure it's early, but it's not hard to see what's going on. not bashing hyundai... well maybe a little. if a wannabe is what it takes to up the image than be it. i've read a bunch of articles from magazines and it looks to me like the car industry is heading toward the luxury venture anyways. even small compacts will be somewhat luxurious. wheels are getting bigger and cars faster and safer regardless of price. it's all because of improved technology and company image. simple economics one company does it, others have to do it too. in 2020 the Toyota Corolla will be considered somewhat luxurious.
we all think hyundai is entering the luxury segment. it's really not. it's just a few years ahead of the rest of the game. they have no choice but to make the most out of this decade and this is their only chance to fit in with the big dogs. I'd say 10 years from now the Genesis will be the Toyota Avalon/Nissan Altima of the mid 90's minus the MP3 input and drive train.

The base coupe's 2.0-liter all-aluminum turbo four-cylinder is the fruit of the same Global Engineering Manufacturing Alliance that produced the 291-horse, 2.0-liter turbo in the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution and 300-horse, 2.4-liter turbo that powers the Dodge Caliber SRT-4. Output from the north/south-oriented engine will be significantly less-212 horses at 6000 rpm and 217 pound-feet of torque at 2500 rpm-to give buyers a reason to pick the V-6. Hyundai did engineer some headroom for the tuning and drifting set; the blown and intercooled I-4 features a low 9.3:1 compression and can take boost up to 29 psi. Like the V-6, Hyundai is certifying the engine to run on regular or premium unleaded. With the latter, horsepower jumps to 223.
wait did they write 29 psi ? stock ? no way. I wanna see numbers on the stock genesis I4 getting 29 psi ! then I'll believe that one.

Yah the compression ratio stock will be 9.3:1 i believe, and as long as the internals are relatively quality, which im sure they are because the new SRT-4 and the EVO engines use pretty much the same engine with each company's minor tweaks, so im very sure (as long as the turbo can handle and ECU willing) you can use a MBC to bump boost to the high teens and bump the hp up to 300+, if were really lucky with a bigger turbo you might be able to hit that 29psi mark with out cracking the block.

Wow, your attitude lately makes me want to E-Teabag you. I'm serious. That's EXACTLY what it's going to be, just like the new Sonata changed everything a ton, so will this car.
f*** German made cars.
I thought you were taking time off of the forums?

Wrong again. Genesis IS a luxury brand, and Hyundai is starting with Genesis being their new Luxury spinoff BRAND in China, then moving it elsewhere. It's not just the name of the car over there, it's a new BRAND, of which the same car magazines have been speculating for quite some time now.
You can read about it everywhere, it was all over a few weeks ago.

^i'm leaving room for an open mind, however we'll have to let sales figures, ratings, and reviews decide. i do disagree however that it will be a spinoff brand man. just like everyone said the "tuscani" was going to be a spinoff. i suggest the new logo they put on it is just for branding image just to say "this isn't your your typical korean hyundai from korea". you might be more aware of this than i am so i give you that but not for a minute will i believe there is a new luxury spinoff brand. a different badge doesn't make any difference.
it isn't going to be as good of a performing car as any one of its competitors. we'll just have to see some car reviews to get the big picture. hopefully it'll get good ratings--but this is where i'm not so sure. remember it is their first try.
i hope you're right. all i'm saying is it's hard to believe they'll just pull it out of the hat. i'm also going to miss that hyundai feel no other car can offer. let's pray they didn't give that up. if you don't believe the corolla, take a look at the present one. civics used to be scrap heap commuter tin foil death traps and currently they're bigger and badder than RD's!
i'll accept your e-teabag offer if genesis reviews are satisfactory and sales are within expectations. be sure to label it "fragile" or else fedex will play soccer with it laugh.gif

I'm not going to waste my time looking up the articles about it again, but it's happening.
Whether you disagree with it or not, I doubt Hyundai is going to mind much what a RD1 owner thinks of it's plans.
LOL

Definitely an improvement with the rear wheel drive but since its a 4,300 lbs car with a v6 in it, it just left me wanting the coup to come out sooner.
Hyundai disagrees with you. The V8 comes in at 4,006 pounds with the four piston 13" brake rotors up front and a heavy 6 speed automatic. The V6 is just over 3,700 pounds.
Sorry, I just want to keep factual information out there. I don't want people to read your post and take it as truth.
BTW... I've been putting HKC's opinions in the back of my mind. I've disagreed with almost every one of his opinions lately, whether rim designs or car talk.
