GM to halt Camaro/Firebird production
#21
Solo,
I should have clarified more, the SSR stands for Super Sport Roadster, so it's not really in the same league as the lighting. Thing of the SSR as the ElCamino revisited.
Here are some pics and general info about the SSR.
I have also heard that the Lightning will still be quicker than the SSR, but again, thats just hearsay.

I think the reason that the Camaro/TransAm didn't sell well compared to the Mustang is due to one factor... Styling.
The Camaros/TransAm are ugly as hell. Maybe if GM brings back the Camaro with 60s retro styling it would be succesful.

Dopeskills,
If you go to motortrend.com you can see a write up there on the possible future of the Camaro and they did exactly this. I personally don't think they are ugly but I am biased since I own two of them. I think their problem is everyday dirvability. You can't see the hood when you drive, and since it is a large car it makes it very hard to manuver in your average parking lot. I think the interior needs a little refinement too, but all in all I think they are beautiful.
EDIT: Here is a link to that article.

The factory I work at makes a lot of parts for the Chevy Impala and Monte Carlos. We don't deal with any of the Camaro parts or anything, so it hasn't effected us.
Have you guys heard that GM is going to bring out the Impala SS? 280 horse Supercharged FWD? Sounds like fun to me.

They had the SSR out at my school with some of the GM reps. They revved it for us, and took it for a lil spin (wouldnt let me though, i asked tongue.gif ). The hardtop convertable is nice, the suspension sounds like its a winner, and then the engine. Shame its gonna be $40k. frown

So how much horsepower is your 4.3L engine putting out? 160?
